Non alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is diagnosed when the liver is made of more than 5% of fat. This excess fat composition of the liver can be attributed to high consumption of carbohydrate and sugars.


When sugar and carbohydrates are consumed in high quantities your liver starts producing fats. After a while the fat appears to get stuck to the liver. Which in turn changes the composition of your liver and increases the risk of (NAFLD)


2. Respiratory disease

When you weigh more, your lung function can be damaged. The accumulation of fat on the abdomen may limit the diaphragm movement and in turn the lung expansion.


The accumulation of visceral fat can reduce the flexibility of the chest wall and narrow the airways is the lungs. This can lead to a difficulty in breathing.


Asthma and obstructive sleep apnea are two common respiratory diseases that have been linked with obesity. As per a research done by Harvard University, obesity increases the risk of asthma by 50%.


3. Depression

Relation between obesity and depression is a two street as determined by the experts at Harvard University. That means obesity increases the risk of depression and depression in creases the risk of obesity.


Studies have shown that obese people are about 25 percent more likely to experience a depression compared with those who are not obese.


A study of people who underwent a fat reduction surgery found that, an year after the surgery the test subjects had experienced 77% loss in weight and 18% reduction of depression symptoms.


4. Cancer

As cancer is not a single disease but a collection of individual diseases, the association between obesity and cancer is not quite as clear.


However, according to the research done by experts at the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research, it was concluded that there was convincing evidence of an association between obesity and cancers of the esophagus, pancreas, colon and rectum, breast, and kidney, and a probable association between obesity and gallbladder cancer.


5. Type 2 Diabetes

It is known that excess weight leads to Type 2 Diabetes. The Fat cells, especially those stored around the waist, secrete hormones and other substances that fire inflammation. Even though inflammation is an essential component of the immune system, inappropriate inflammation causes a variety of health problems.


Inflammation can make the body less responsive to insulin and change the way the body metabolises fats and carbohydrates, leading to higher blood sugar levels and, eventually, to diabetes and its many complications.
